Die Vorgänger Illuminati und Meteor haben mir gereicht. Durch den verkorksten Schluss wurde jedesmal alles ruiniert, deshalb habe ich den „internationalen Bestseller“ Sakrileg nicht gelesen (= Rache des kleinen Mannes). Trotzdem war ich gespannt, was Hollywood und Tom Hanks aus einer Dan Brown-Vorlage machen würden.
In allerbester Indiana Jones-Tradition suchen Symbologe Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) und die französische Kryptologin Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou… !) bei einer historisch-religiösen Schnitzeljagd nach dem Heiligen Gral, der diesmal nicht in Iskenderun ist.
Der Film läuft epische 149 Minuten, und wie prophezeit fühlt man sich am Ende irgendwie angemeiert. Der Star ist die Grals-Storyline, besonders Tom Hanks ist schauspielerisch unterfordert. Am besten gefielen mir noch Paul Bettany als Albinomönch Silas und der Kurzauftritt von Kaleun Jürgen Prochnow (natürlich als Bösewicht, ist doch klar).
Insgesamt ist der Film aber anständige Einmalunterhaltung, nicht weniger. Dank des erfolgreichen Romans und „religiöser Kontroversen“ (= Publicity) hat er mit 224 Mio USD weltweit ein hervorragendes Startwochenende hingelegt. Das zeigt zumindest, dass die Leute sehr wohl noch ins Kino gehen (in der Hoffnung, einen guten Film zu sehen) !
Die Da Vinci Code Website ist ebenfalls einen Kurzbesuch wert.
After reading Angels and Demons and Deception Point, I was sick of Dan Brown books. He ruined the ending twice, so therefore I did not read his latest, the best selling Da Vinci Code. Nevertheless, I was curious how Hollywood and Tom Hanks would adapt a Dan Brown novel for the screen.
In true Indiana Jones fashion, symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and French cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) go on a historical-religios hunt for the Holy Grail, which this time can not be found in Iskenderun.
As predicted, you feel punk’d after some epic 149 minutes. Star of the movie is the Grail storyline itself, and esp. Tom Hanks‘ acting skills remain unchallenged. I did like Paul Bettany as albino monk Silans and Jürgen Prochnow (German & evil of course), though.
Overall, the film is decent one-time-entertainment. Thanks to the successful novel and some „religios controversy“ (= publicity) it performed very well on the opening weekend, earning 224 Mil. USD worldwide. This at least shows that people still do go the cinema (hoping for a quality movie) !
The Da Vinci Code website is worth a visit as well.
