V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta posterWearing a Guy Fawkes mask, “V” wants to blow up Houses of Parliament, too. Thus, he would have his own personal revenge and at the same time free the English who have suffered from tyranny of the party and the chancellor for a few years. Meeting Evey (Natalie Portmann) is a coincidence, but changes both her life and V’s plans.

V for Vendetta is a Wachowski Brothers movie (Matrix & poor sequels) not directed by themselves but by newbie James McTeigue, who worked as assistant director on all Matrix parts and on Episode II - Attack of the Clones (!). The result is stunning: very thrilling and with perfectly dosed action. Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith, Elrond) as V makes perfect use of gesture, voice and dialogue. Rating 8.0 at imdb at the moment, the movie briefly entered the Top 250.

I do definitely recommend seeing it at the cinema. The only thing that bothers me about it is the way V helps with Evey’s emancipation, that is a bit too questionable for me (no spoilers here).
